Beans will be offering introductory baking classes for youth. Participants will learn and practice age-appropriate baking techniques; including how to measure, portion, and mix ingredients, as well as decorating and icing various baked goods.

Attention all Beans Junior Bakers class graduates! This is your chance to showcase your baking skills and have your favorite baked treat featured at Beans. We can’t wait to see and taste your creations!

Jr Bakers
Class is limited to 10 students Each class duration is 4 evenings Fall 2024 DATES Thursday evenings (Classes are 4 weeks long) September 12, 19, 26 & October 3 4-5:30pm and 6-7:30pm |
Contest Details:
• Submission Date: August 12, 2024 9am-12pm • Eligibility: Open exclusively to graduates of the Beans Junior Bakers class • Submission Categories: Refrigerated or non-refrigerated dishes • Cost Information: Include the total cost of the ingredients used to make your dish How to Enter: 1. Create Your Dish: Prepare your best recipe. It could be a cake, cookie, pie, or any other delicious creation, as long as it’s homemade and able to be sold in individual servings. 2. Document the Costs: Write down all the ingredients used and their costs. We need a detailed breakdown to understand the total cost to make your dish. 3. Deliver Your Entry: Bring your dish to Beans Café for judging between 9am-12pm on August 12. Include your recipe with your submission. |

Judging Criteria:
• Taste: How delicious is your dish? • Creativity: How unique and original is your recipe? • Presentation: How well-presented is your dish? • Cost Efficiency: How affordable is it for the customer? Prize: • The winning dish will be showcased at Beans Café for one week in August. • The winner will receive a $50 gift card to Beans Café and their item will be showcased with their Bio for one week. All other entries will receive a $10 Gift Card. Important Dates: • Submission Date: August 12, 9am-12pm • Winner Announcement: August 15, 2024 |
LOCATION The classes take place at our bakery space in Dry Ridge, not at the restaurant. Address will be provided to registered students. REGISTER Reserve your spot by printing and completing the registration form and by submitting payment with the form to Beans (21 Taft Hwy, Dry Ridge). First come, first served. |
How to Submit:
• In-Person: Drop off your dish and ingredient list at Beans Café between 9 AM and 12 PM on August 12. We will not be accepting photo submissions; only received items will be judged. Tips for a Winning Entry: • Make sure your dish is as tasty as it looks! • Keep your ingredient costs reasonable. • Let your creativity and personality shine through your creation. Intro to Baking Class
Every class is designed to be a fun and educational way to practice simple ingredient combinations. Among our many homemade baked goods, students will learn about donuts, cookies, brownies and more!
We will be using store-bought style ingredients that your child can create with your assistance at home. There is no experience necessary and parents/guardians are welcome to stay and watch from a viewing area next to the teaching kitchen.
Only 10 spots available per class. The total cost is $40 per child (applicable taxes not included). Registration and fee must be submitted together in-store at Beans (21 Taft Hwy, Dry Ridge, KY). Priority is given by date of registration and payment.

Baking 101
In this class students will make a pie, quick bread & cheesecake all from scratch with regular household ingredients.
This class is designed to take the skills you have learned in the introductory class or at home and begin to apply them in a practical way. Applicants should already have a basic understanding of measuring ingredients, kitchen hygiene practices, oven & mixer safety, temperature reading and time awareness. This class will move along quicker with a focus on technique and recipe adherence.
Children under the age of 11 that want to be in the class can be considered provided that they have had previous experience through Jr. Bakers Intro to Baking or at home. They will also need to be keen, willing to be taught and good listeners.
Only 8 spots available per class. The total cost is $60 per child (applicable taxes not included). Registration and fee must be submitted together in-store at Beans (21 Taft Hwy, Dry Ridge, KY). Priority is given by date of registration and payment.

All staff will have a completed background check on file. The class area is peanut-free, however there are peanuts and tree nuts within the facility. Please note any allergens at sign up.
While participants from past Beans Jr. Bakers classes are welcome to re-take the Intro to Baking Course, registration priority will be given first to new participants.
